Honor 8X, 8X Max Unveiled in China: Two Types of Notches and Mid-Range Specs

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has launched the Honor 8X and 8X Max, the successors to its Honor 7X mid-range phone in China. The devices feature two types of notches and glass design, along with narrow bezels, falling in line with the company’s recent aesthetics. It has been priced starting at 1,399 yuan (approx Rs 14,499) and will go on sale on September 11.

Price and Availability

Starting off with the Honor 8X, the base variant of the device has beenpriced at 1,399 yuan(about Rs 14,499). You will have to shell out 1,599 yuan (roughly Rs 16,499) to pick up the 6GB+64GB variant and 1,899 yuan (approx. Rs 19,999) for the 6GB+128GB variant.

On the other hand,the Honor 8X Max also comes in three variants– the 4GB+64GB variant that costs 1,499 yuan (approx. Rs 15,499) and 4GB+128GB variant that costs 1,799 yuan (roughly Rs 18,499) in China. There’s also a 6GB+64GB variant, which is powered by the Snapdragon 660 SoC, unlike the other models which feature the Snapdragon 636.

Honor 8X

The device features ahuge 6.5-inch Full-HD+ IPS LCD screen, with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio and pixel density of 397ppi. It is powered by its parent’s in-house HiSilicon Kirin 710 processor, coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.2 out-of-the-box.

In the optics department, the Honor 8X sportsa 20MP+2MP dual rear-camera setup, with a f/1.8 aperture. There’s also a 16MP selfie camera (f/2.0 aperture) on board. This device comes with the company’s usual AI photography stuff, capable of recognizing at least 200 scenes.

The deviceholds a 3,750mAh battery pack, which paired with the microUSB port is a major disappointment.

Honor 8X Max

The Honor 8X and the 8X Max look around the same, except for the notch design. While the former sports a larger iPhone X-like notch, the latter comes with a trendy waterdrop notch.

Otherwise, the Honor 8X Maxfeatures a bigger 7.12-inch Full-HD+ screenwith a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and pixel density of 350ppi. It is powered by either the Snapdragon 636 or the Snapdragon 660 chipset, depending on the RAM and storage configurations. The higher-end variant will go on sale in October.

It runs EMUI 8.2.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, but the microUSB port comes as a major disappointment. There’s also a 5,000mAh battery on board, which, however, is a relief.

The device also brings along a 16MP + 2MP dual rear-camera setup, with a f/2.0 and a f/2.4 aperture respectively. There’s also an 8MP selfie camera (f/2.0 aperture) on board, with AI features integrated into the same.

There’s currently no mention of when the 8X duo will be launched in India, however, we can expect it to be quite soon as Honor wouldn’t want to miss out on rivaling thenewly-launched Redmi 6 seriesin the budget segment. It has already unveiled the Honor 7S to take on the Redmi 6A.
