Oppo A9 2020, A5 2020 with Quad-Cameras Launched in India

Just days after the launch of itsReno 2premium mid-range lineup in India, Oppo is back with two new budget smartphones under the Rs 20,000 price bracket. Oppo A9 2020 and A5 2020 are the latest offerings from the Chinese giant. If you ignore the weird ahead-of-its-time naming scheme, these devices offer a cool gradient design, modern waterdrop notch display, quad-cameras, and a massive battery.

Oppo A9 2020: Specs and Features

Much like any other Oppo smartphone launched in recent months, Oppo A9 2020 is offering you a premium gradient design. I quite like the Marine Green color variant that’s shown below and I know, it looks pretty similar to the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The quad-cameras are aligned at the center, with a physical fingerprint sensor below it.

Oppo A9 2020features a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD displaywith a 1600x720p resolution and 89% screen-to-body ratio. Yes, you are reading it right and no, we did not make any errors. Oppo seems to be trying to pull off an Apple-like stunt by offering an HD display for Rs. 17,000, but it won’t sit well with online buyers who have many more feature-rich options to choose from.

The Oppo A9 2020 is powered by theSnapdragon 665 chipset, which also powers a number of recently launched phones like Realme 5 and Mi A3. This is paired with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, which can be expanded via the dedicated microSD card slot onboard. It runs Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6 out-of-the-box.

In the camera department, Oppo has also given into the quad-camera hype and offers the users a48MP (f/1.8) primary sensor (with EIS support). An 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 119-degree field-of-view, a 2MP depth sensor, and 2MP macro lens with 4 cm focal length accompanies the main sensor. This is a quad-camera module similar to what we have seen on the Realme 5 already. There’s also a16MP(f/2.0) selfie sensorfitted into the waterdrop notch on the front.

One of the key highlights of Oppo A9 2020 is themassive 5,000mAh batterythat comes outfitted in this device. It supports reverse wireless charging via its microUSB port, which is great, but the lack of USB Type-C in 2019 for a phone with 2020 in its name is utterly disappointing. Like really very disappointing. You get all the essential connectivity options and dual stereo speakers baked into the A9 2020 as well.

Oppo A5 2020: Specs and Features

Coming to its younger sibling, there is not a ton of difference between the Oppo A9 2020 and A5 2020 when you talk about it from a design and specifications point-of-view. It has the same waterdrop notch display, same chipset, and same 5,000mAh battery size. The only thing different here are the cameras  – both on the front and back.

Well, it’s only the 48MP primary sensor on the A9 2020 that’s beenswapped out for the 12MP (f/1.8) sensor on Oppo A5 2020. The accompanying sensors all remain the same. The selfie shooter is now an 8MP (f/2.0) sensor.

Price and Availability

TheOppo A9 2020 has been priced starting at Rs. 16,990for the 4GB+128GB base variant, but the 8GB+128GB variant will require you to shell out Rs. 19,990. It comes in two vibrant color variant – Marine Green and Space Purple, with the sales starting from September 16, exclusively on Amazon India.

The Oppo A5 2020, on the other hand, has been priced at Rs. 12,490 for the 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and Rs. 13,990 for 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. It comes in two dazzling colors – Dazzling White and Mirror Black as well and will go on sale starting from September 21.
