Oppo to Show Off its First Under-Display Camera Smartphone on June 26

Remember, Oppo recently posted a short clipshowing offits amazing under-display selfie camera technology a few days ago. We assumed that the said technology will officially be unveiled really soon, but we didn’t expect it so soon, i.e next week. Yes, Oppo has today taken to Weibo to share the teaser for an upcoming event on 26 June at MWC Shanghai 2019.

We’re certain of Oppo’s intention to show off its prototype smartphone hosting an under-display selfie camera. It’s because of the teaser attached below, which shows off your circularlight ring up-top around where the camera would be placed under the screen –similar to what we’ve seen in the video clip released before (screenshot seen above).

Phone makers have been trying to push the bezels to the tee to offer a full-screen bezel-less experience to users, kicking out the selfie camera from the front to pop-up cameras and flip-out modules. Some have even triedincorporating two screensinto their phones, offering only a rear camera system that will also be used as the selfie cameras using the secondary screen as a viewfinder.

We’ve been hearing of under-display cameras for quite some time, but it’s just recently that Chinese brands like Oppo and Xiaomi have hyped up the same by showing working prototypes. Yes, Oppo wasclosely followedby Xiaomi, who didn’t want to pass up on an opportunity to show off the might of its research unit and even published how the tech’s been developed and it works.

I mean, we couldn’t see any punch-hole or aberrations in the videos online, however, it’s next week that we will learn if the under-display camera technology is up to the mark or not. We’re not sure of the image quality from the same as well and that would be one of the most important things that we’ll learn at the event next week.

Do you think under-display cameras would be the next big step in removing the notch or minimizing the bezels? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
