The Gold Redmi K20 Pro Is Launching in India for Only ₹4.8 Lakhs

Xiaomi is all geared up to launch the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro in India today, and apparently, the company has a surprise up its sleeve for its customers.

According to a tweet by Xiaomi India MD, Manu Kumar Jain, the Chinese giant is going to launch a special Gold and Diamond variant of the Redmi K20 Pro alongside the regular Redmi K20 and K20 Pro, and it will be priced at a whopping ₹4.8 lakhs.

Manu’s tweet didn’t give away anything about the phone, other than a picture of the phone’s back which, paired with the price that he’s claiming it’ll be launched at, makes it obvious that the phone has at least a gold plated back, and a diamond encrusted ‘K’ on the back, as we can see from the image in the tweet.

Still, at ₹4.8 lakhs, I can’t help but be reminded of the 18k gold plated Apple Watch Edition that started at a mind-numbing $10,000 (around ₹6.8 lakhs). However, while the insanely priced Apple Watch Edition set it apart as a luxury fashion accessory, I highly doubt the Gold Redmi K20 Pro (heck, Xiaomi might just call it the Redmi K20 Pro Edition) will be able to do anything of the sort.

Even so, it’s incredible to see Xiaomi do something this unexpected, and I’m sure they know that this phone isn’t going to really get customers. It will, however, get a lot of media and social media attention towards the Redmi K20 Pro, and that might very well be what Xiaomi is going for.

While I’m fairly confident this phone will not offer anything extra other than just being outrageously “extra” in the choice of materials, but at ₹4.8 lakhs, I’d assume we’d at least get the fully specced out variant of the K20 Pro.
